Scholarships are awarded to
eligible incoming freshmen students in the College of Engineering on a
merit basis. The engineering chairpersons of each department may also
award additional scholarships to qualified students. Freshmen
scholarships are awarded during each spring semester after the Office of
Admissions confirms admission into the College of Engineering. Students
are selected to receive scholarship offers based upon high school
weighted GPA and ACT/SAT scores. Funding, unless otherwise noted, is for
the freshman year only and is administered on a semester-by-semester
basis.
Most scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen students are partial
awards; however, after the first semester of the freshman year, students
who have obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 may apply for
Corporate-sponsored scholarships when they are available.
Students must complete the PELL Grant Application, FAFSA Forms (Needs
Analysis Forms) by February 15th of each year. Additionally, the student
must consent to the release of academic data from his/her file to the
benefactors of scholarship funding. Data to be released may include the
high school record, admission test scores and subsequent semester grade
point averages accumulated at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical
State University. This authorization extends to any and all semesters in
which the student receives scholarship funding.
The amount of total awards including any federal grants (PELL, etc.) is
not to exceed the cost of scheduled educational expenses for the year
(tuition, fees, room and board). Scholarship awards are subject to
reduction or cancellation by scholarships from athletics, other
university sources, or military science. External awards received from
entities such as high schools, churches, fraternities/sororities, etc.,
will not reduce scholarship awards.
All engineering scholars are strongly encouraged to prepare for, study
for, and take the FE (fundamental of engineering) examination that will
be administered in the senior year.
The University also provides financial aid for students from four basic
sources: grants, scholarships, loans, and employment. Minority Presence
grants may also be available through the Multicultural Student Center
Office.
