STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
The classroom schedule of the mechanical engineering student is complemented by various activities. Student can participate in student sections of:

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

The student chapter of ASME at North Carolina A&T State University is very active within the Department. The chapter sponsors a number of activities throughout the year, including plant tours, student design competition, and outreach programs to local elementary school through high school students.

SAE Aero Design

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) sponsors several student design competitions each year including the SAE Aero Design competition. This competition requires engineering students to design, fabricate, and test a radio controlled aircraft that can take off and land while carrying the maximum cargo. There are two regional competitions held once a year in North America, Aero Design East and Aero Design West. Each regional competition spans a three-day period and consists of a number of separate events for which points are awarded.

  Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers is dedicated to bringing people and information together to advance manufacturing knowledge.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

NSBE's mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

  Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

The Society of Automotive Engineers has more than 90,000 members - engineers, business executives, educators, and students from more than 97 countries - who share information and exchange ideas for advancing the engineering of mobility systems. SAE is your one-stop resource for standards development, events, and technical information and expertise used in designing, building, maintaining, and operating self-propelled vehicles for use on land or sea, in air or space.

Students can also participate in Mini-Baja, and Legends Inter Collegiate Auto Racing and design competition. NCA&T is one of the few Universities that has a racing team that competes in ICAR races.
