The Department of Industrial Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET).

  • COURSE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEES

  • Each course is guided by a “Course Committee” consisting of a “Course Leader” and two or more faculty members who have an interest in the course material. Course committees review courses clustered around themes such as statistics and human factors, manufacturing, production systems, and general assessment. The course leader is responsible for
((i) scheduling at least one committee meeting during the first month of classes following the semester in which the course is taught
(ii) making sure that course materials are available for the committee when it meets
(iii) keeping the committee discussions on task, and
(iv) submitting the annual course report.

    [Course Committee Review Process]

  • The purpose of the course committee is to
  • stimulate discussion among faculty members and to assess course materials, thereby, leading to documented improvement of course content, of student learning, and of coordination of content among courses.
Toward this end, the responsibilities of the committees are:
    • To specify the assessment instruments for the course.
    • To specify the performance targets for assessing the outcomes for the course learning objectives.
    • To determine if the course syllabus was covered.
    • To determine if the course design content was met.
    • To evaluate the data from the assessment instruments to determine if the course outcomes have been met.
    • To specify the minimum course learning objectives. These objectives should reflect the desired design content of the course. Additional objectives may be added at the discretion of an individual faculty member teaching the course.
    • To select the course text(s) and software package(s).
    • To test whether or not specific course learning objectives have been met. These questions will be used on assessment tests.
    • To annually review the course and recommend changes regarding the course by completing the annual course report. This report will go to the department Outcomes Assessment Committee.

Each course committee is expected to meet at the end of each semester and review several items as given below:
    • Student evaluation of course learning objectives
    • Syllabus (must contain learning objectives and grading policies)
    • Relationship of course to INEN program outcomes
    • Student work to provide evidence that course learning objectives have been achieved.
    • Class notes and other instructional material
    • Final course report from previous year - course committee review of course materials, student work, recommendations on changing course content, textbook, laboratory exercises, prerequisite, etc.

  • The current composition of course committees
