9th symposium on human interaction with complex systems 2009 (HICS-2009)
9th symposium on human interaction with complex systems 2009 (HICS-2009)
The Annual Symposium on Human Interaction with Complex Systems (HICS) started in 1994 to address the intellectual community concerns on human and system design issues in evolving complex systems. Mr. Waldrop in his book, Complexity: The Emerging Science at the Edge of Order and Chaos notes that “Complex systems are more spontaneous, more disorderly, more alive…” It is also ubiquitous—begging for a collective inquiry of its behaviors with respect to the changes scales and dimensions of internal and external inputs. You are encouraged to join diverse experts as they share their theoretical and practical experiences on this discipline.
HEAR from experts from both the military and industry as they discuss their experiences on dealing, coping, and working with complex systems, how the conduct the sense making process, and how the make decisions.
The 9th Annual Symposium on Human Interaction with Complex Systems will be held August 19-21, 2009 at the Greenbelt Marriott, Greenbelt, MD. The organization committee invites the participation of researchers from academia, industry and government laboratories. The HICS theme reflects current interests on complex systems and asymmetric command and control (C2) decision-making: people, organization, information technology, and automation. Please see call for paper for more detail on deadlines.
The organizing committee invites all persons interested in the areas of Human Interactions with Complex Systems, Sensemaking / Decision Making to submit papers for presentation at the conference. The symposium will cover the theory and practice of complexity, human interactions with automation, and making sense of complex information networks. the objective of the conference is to bring together researchers in the field of Complex Systems, Human Interactions and Modeling, and Sensemaking to exchange ideas on their research and applications.
Topics of Interests:
Of interest are all aspects of human interactions, including both basic and applied research in (but are not limited to) the following subject categories:
Neuro-cognition of human performance, Cognition and visualization, Situation awareness, Information fusion and foraging, Theory of complexity in information intensive environments, Technology-centric work systems, Situation understanding, Information awareness, Intelligent agents, Decision aiding, Human-system integration, Human performance modeling & simulation, Social network, Sense-making/ Decision-making in complex information networked systems.
