Program Summary |
|
The Title III Ph.D. Fellowship is a prestigious award offered to a top entering Ph.D. student at North Carolina A&T State University in engineering. The Fellowship is funded through a
Title III HBGI grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Eligibility Requirements |
|
These awards are for graduate students who will enter a doctoral program with an earned master’s degree. Awards are made for one year. Program continuation is contingent upon the student’s academic progress and the availability of funds. The award is renewable for up to eight semesters.
Those eligible to apply for participation in the fellowship program must be native Black Americans. In addition, the following requirements must be satisfied:
- must have and maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA
- must be admitted by the School of Graduate Studies with an unconditional status
- must not concurrently hold another fellowship or internship
- cannot be employed or receive any other source of funds
- must be enrolled full-time

Evaluation and Selection |
|
Students may not apply directly for these fellowships. Instead, they must be nominated by their prospective Department Head, who submit nominations directly to the Title III Office.
Each completed nomination form must be accompanied by
- a letter of support from the prospective faculty advisor
- a statement of purpose from the student
- a copy of the nominee’s transcripts.

Stipend and Fellowship Tenure |
|
The Title III Ph.D. Fellowship provides a stipend of $18,900 over a period of nine months for entering students. In-state and out-of-state tuition, fees and health insurance are also covered. The level of continuing support is based on the student’s academic progress. Summer stipends are also available.

Application Deadline |
|
Departments will be asked to submit nominations to the Title III Office. The Title III Office will announce the exact deadline in the call for nominations.
