COE NEWS - The Society of Women Engineers revamped themselves in the fall of 2007

After being absent for a few years, the Society of Women Engineers revamped themselves in the fall of 2007. With a strong executive board and ambitious advisor, SWE has attracted not only new active members but companies as well.

This past month, the executive board attended their regional conference in Miami, Florida. Many connections were made through networking among the professional members, collegiate members and the University of Miami administration. However, this has not been the only event SWE has participated in since its reintroduction to the college of engineering.

Members have participated in the First Lego League, sponsored two children for "Winter Wishes in Aggie Land" and raised money for the women in Darfur through a Valentine's Day candy sale. During Engineers Week, SWE hosted an event everyday of the week. With the help of Toyota, they hosted a Toyota information session, Toyota car show and Toyota model car competition.

A few members of the executive board also had the opportunity to sit with Toyota representatives including Jerry Studivarent , the general manager at the banquet. They also provided lunch for a class full of inquisitive girls at Kiser Middle School during "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day".

Next month SWE will be teaming up with the Girl Scouts for Girl Scouts Day and participating in Relay for Life at UNCG.

SWE’s mission to consistently continue the importance diversity, professionalism and community service sets them apart from other engineering organizations in the College of Engineering.
