Center for Advanced Materials and Smart Structures (CAMSS)

The Center for Advanced Materials and Smart Structures seeks to create cross-disciplinary infrastructure that transcends departmental, institutional, industrial and governmental barriers and lends itself to the integration of research and education in the vital field of smart and advanced materials.
The Vision of the Center:
The Center for Advanced Materials and Smart Structures will be an educational and research resource for the state of North Carolina and the Nation in the field of advanced ceramic materials and their composites, through the collaboration of academe, private industry and the government in developing basic and applied research programs with a focus on student participation and learning.

  Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Team (NIRT)

The present Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Team (NIRT) project is a joint effort by faculty, researchers, and scientists from North Carolina A & T State (NCAT) University, North Carolina State University (NCSU), University of Florida (UF), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) and IBM TJ Watson Research Center. NCAT is serving as the lead institution for this project. The objective of the project is to develop a cutting edge research and education program in the areas of nanostructured dmagnetic and high temperature superconducting materials. The team members work very interactively with each other making significant progresses in both areas of research. The educational and outreach activities have created tremendous opportunities for student training, advanced learning, and creating awareness and interest in nanoscience and technology among K-12 students and teachers.

Center for Composite Materials Research (CCMR)

The Center for Composite Materials (CCMR) was established in 1988 as a recognition of research excellence in composite materials that was being conducted in the department of Mechanical Engineering in association with other departments in the College of Engineering. It is the Center of Excellence for Polymeric based Composite Materials of the NC A&T State University and the University of North Carolina System. The center's missions are: to develop polymeric based composite materials technology for traditional and non-traditional engineering applications; to provide quality education and training to students and faculty in A&T, other universities in the UNC system, and other minority institutions within the country; and finally, to transfer composite materials technology to industries and other institutions.
The CCMR is a part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and is supported by faculty and students from the College of Engeneering and other schools of the University. The center is located in the Edward Fort's Research Center building.

  Science and Technology Center (STC)

The S&T Center for Environmentally Responsible Solvents and Processes has as its goal to establish the scientific fundamentals necessary to enable liquid and supercritical CO2 to replace aqueous and organic solvents in a large number of key processes in our Nation's manufacturing sector. This is a multi-disciplinary effort with participants from five academic centers and two national laboratories: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T University, University of Texas at Austin and the Georgia Institute of Technology in partnership with Sandia National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
