Welcome to the website for the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. My name is Paul Stanfield and I am privileged to serve as chair of the department.
Industrial and systems engineers design and improve systems of people, equipment, and information. We focus on the processes used to provide a service or manufacture a product. Our graduates work in top tier manufacturing, financial, health, logistics, and community organizations. The skills learned as an industrial and systems engineer can be of immense benefit in any career path, as well as personal, family, and community life. We are a people-focused engineering who have a direct impact on societal quality of life.
NC A&T is a very special place to become an Industrial Engineer. The department is growing in size, opportunities, and stature. We provide a challenging learning environment where our students are known and supported as an individuals. Our students form relationships with faculty and peers that last for life.
Our departmental emphasis is preparing you for a successful professional life. In the midst of increasing global pressures and changing technology, we do this by focusing on two skill sets. The first skill set are those required for any successful engineer. We call these our CAP skills (Communication, Analysis, Problem-Solving). To get in the game, you need a CAP. The second skill set makes our graduates unique and highly marketable. We call these our STILT skills (System thinking/synthesis, Teamwork, Information technology integration, Leadership/entrepreneurship, and Trans-cultural and discipline). To stand out in the crowd, you need STILTs.
We hope you will explore our web-site to learn more about our department and its student-centered approach. I am always available should you have any questions.
