 NSF ERC AWARD

 North Carolina A&T State University has been awarded a grant for an Engineering Research Center (ERC) from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Engineering Research Center grants are among the most prestigious NSF awards, and they represent major investments by NSF in partnership with industry to transform engineering research and education.

The centers aim to produce innovative technologies and engineering graduates to significantly enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. economy. The ERC program has made 49 awards since its initiation in 1985 and is making five new awards in 2008.

The award to A&T marks the first time that an HBCU has been the lead institution of an ERC. Award funding has been approved at $18 million for the initial five years, with a potential duration of 10 years...<more>

 NC A&T Eco Car at The Shell Eco Marathon Ranked #3

NCA&T Eco team competed in the Shell Eco-Marathon competition that was held in Fontana, CA - April 15-18, 2009. The team designed and built a hydrogen fuel cell car to compete in the prototype group. The team ranked #3 in this group, their car achieved 1074 Mile per gallon.

The team started working on the car from the fall semester of 2008 to April 15, 2009. This is a senior design project (3 credit hours in the fall semester and 3 credit hours in the spring semester).

Our future goals is to build a much more efficient car (2000 MPG).

"This competition provided the opportunity for students to learn the mechanics and importance of teamwork, project organization, scheduling, system design, product design, product testing, cost analysis, and project reporting - all in a real world environment with real deadlines and stiff competition. I am very proud that our students have demonstrated the ability to successfully compete with students from the top-rated engineering programs in the world"... <more>

 Lockheed Martin STARS Workshop (Mar 13-14, 2009)

Approximately 50 students braved the rainy weekend to attend the Lockheed Martin STARS Workshop that was held in McNair Hall.

The acronym STARS stands for Students, Tools and Resources for Success. The workshop was hosted by the ELITE Student Development Center and was held on Friday evening, March 13th and Saturday, March 14th...<more>
